Book #1 / 3 of the Shades of Magic series
Rating: 3.5 / 5 stars
Kell is one of the last Antari—magicians with a rare, coveted ability to travel between parallel Londons; Red, Grey, White, and, once upon a time, Black. He was raised in Arnes—Red London—and officially serves the Maresh Empire as an ambassador, traveling between the frequent bloody regime changes in White London and the court of George III in the dullest of Londons, the one without any magic left to see. Unofficially, Kell is a smuggler, servicing people willing to pay for even the smallest glimpses of a world they’ll never see. It’s a defiant hobby with dangerous consequences, which Kell is now seeing firsthand.
After an exchange goes awry, Kell escapes to Grey London and runs into Delilah Bard, a cut-purse with lofty aspirations. She first robs him, then saves him from a deadly enemy, and finally forces Kell to spirit her to another world for a proper adventure. Now perilous magic is afoot, and treachery lurks at every turn. To save all of the worlds, they’ll first need to stay alive.

#1 / 3 of the Red Rising trilogy
Rating: 4.5 / 5 stars
Summary: Darrow is a Red, a member of the lowest caste in the color-coded society of the future. Like his fellow Reds, he works all day, believing that he and his people are making the surface of Mars livable for future generations. But Darrow and his kind have been betrayed. Soon he discovers that humanity already reached the surface generations ago. Vast cities and sprawling parks spread across the planet. Darrow—and Reds like him—are nothing more than slaves to a decadent ruling class.
Inspired by a longing for justice, and driven by the memory of lost love, Darrow sacrifices everything to infiltrate the legendary Institute, a proving ground for the dominant Gold caste, where the next generation of humanity’s overlords struggle for power. He will be forced to compete for his life and the very future of civilization against the best and most brutal of Society’s ruling class. There, he will stop at nothing to bring down his enemies… even if it means he has to become one of them to do so.
Disclaimer: I received this book as a Goodreads Giveaway literally like almost two years ago. Whoops.

Hi, all! Sorry for the lack of posts within the last 2 – 3 months, but life has been crazy busy. First, I was studying for my NCLEX… which I then passed, meaning I am officially a Registered Nurse in the state of Florida!! Then, I went to Ireland for two weeks to celebrate graduating college and my new status as a nurse, before I started my new job in August, which I love although it has literally been sucking up all of my free time 😦 I am so excited to get back into the swing of things – although it might be a while before I post again, because of a little devil headed my way named HURRICANE IRMA. Anyway, I hope to churn out a few posts before she hits; but I wanted to start back with a meme to get back into the swing of things. This meme, Book Traveling Thursdays, was created by Catia (@The Girl Who Read Too Much) and Danielle (@Danielle’s Book Blog).
This week’s challenge is: “Labor Day was this past Monday. Pick a book where a character has your dream job!” Continue reading “Book Traveling Thursday // 09.07.17”
Hi, all! This meme, Book Traveling Thursdays, was created by Catia (@The Girl Who Read Too Much) and Danielle (@Danielle’s Book Blog). This week’s challenge is: “Freebie week. Today you can choose whatever you want either it is a book you’ve been wanting to talk for a long time or one of the previous themes.” I’m not really creative enough to come up with my own prompt and I’ve been pretty lazy with the posting this month, so I decided to steal one of the earlier themes: “May 18th – Choose a book that has originally a red cover.”

Hey, y’all! Sorry I’ve been a little sparse with the book reviews lately, but life happens (AKA I GRADUATED FROM COLLEGE Y’ALL), and reading is (unfortunately) not always my #1 priority. To alleviate my time between reviews, I decided I’m going to jump on the meme train! WWW Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Sam @Taking On A World Of Words, where I have to answer three simple questions: what am I currently reading, what I have recently read, and what I want to read soon. I did this for the first time last week and really enjoy this meme, as I am always reading multiple books at once and queueing my next choices right on my nightstand. So, here we go!
